Dragon Ball Z, which follows the adventures of the protagonist Goku who is best anime
Dragon Ball Z(ドラゴンボールゼット,Doragon Bōru Zetto, commonly abbreviated as DBZ) is the long-running anime sequel to the Dragon Ball TV series, adapted from the final twenty-six volumes of the Dragon Ball manga written by Akira Toriyama. The manga portion of the series debuted in Weekly Shōnen Jump in October 4, 1988 and lasted until 1995; the anime adaptation premiered in Japan on Fuji Television on April 26, 1989, taking over its predecessor's time slot, and ran until its end on January 31, 1996. Part of the Dragon Ball media franchise, it was originally broadcast in Japan on Fuji TV from April 25, 1989 to January 31, 1996 before getting dubbed in territories including the United States, Canada and Australia.
Dragon Ball Z follows the adventures of the adult Goku who, along with his companions, defends the earth against an assortment of villains ranging from intergalactic space fighters and conquerors, unnaturally powerful androids and nearly indestructible demonic organisms. While the original Dragon Ball anime followed Goku from his childhood into adulthood, Dragon Ball Z is a continuation of his adult life, but at the same time parallels the maturation of his son, Gohan, as well as other characters from Dragon Ball and more.
The anime series features an extensive cast of characters created by Akira Toriyama. It also features characters, scenarios and back-stories not present in the original manga. The series takes place in a fictional universe, the same as Toriyama's previous series Dr. Slump and Dragon Ball. However, unlike the latter which would involve magic and fantastic creatures, Dragon Ball Z is primarily a science fiction series.
The serialization of Dragon Ball started in the August 1984 issue of Weekly Shōnen Jump, under a new title and direction. Toriyama further refined his style by introducing characters who were more complex than those that came before; not just in how they appeared, but also how they behaved and saw the world. One of the first characters created is Piccolo, who would later be considered the true second main character of the series. The plot theme of Dragon Ball evolved from one being about adventure and exploration to one involving martial arts (similar to Hong Kong Martial Arts films such as Enter the Dragon) as Toriyama said he had grown tired of drawing long adventures.
