Dragon Ball Z (Japanese: ドラゴンボールZゼット Hepburn: Doragon Bōru Zetto, commonly abbreviated as DBZ) is a Japanese anime television series produced by Toei Animation. It is the sequel to Dragon Ball and adapts the latter 324 chapters of the original 519-chapter Dragon Ball manga series created by Akira Toriyama which ran in Weekly Shōnen Jump from 1988 to 1995. Dragon Ball Z aired in Japan on Fuji TV from April 26, 1989 to January 31, 1996, before getting dubbed in territories including the United States, Canada, Australia, Europe, India and Latin America.


Dragon Ball Z is the second series in the Dragon Ball anime franchise. The manga portion of the series debuted in Weekly Shōnen Jump in October 1988 and lasted until 1995; the anime adaptation premiered in Japan on Fuji Television on April 26, 1989. Part of the Dragon Ball media franchise, it was originally broadcast in Japan on Fuji TV from April 26, 1989 to January 31, 1996.


Dragon Ball Z follows the adventures of the adult Goku who, along with his companions, defends the earth against an assortment of villains ranging from intergalactic space fighters and conquerors, unnaturally powerful androids and near indestructible magical creatures. While the original Dragon Ball anime followed Goku through childhood into adulthood, Dragon Ball Z is a continuation of his adulthood life, but at the same time parallels the maturation of his son, Gohan, as well as other characters from Dragon Ball and more.

Goku is back with his new son, Gohan, but just when things are getting settled down, the adventures continue. Whether he is facing enemies such as Frieza, Cell, or Buu, Goku is proven to be an elite of his own and discovers his race, Saiyan and is able to reach Super Saiyan 3 form. He meets many new people, gaining allies and well as enemies, as he still finds time to raise a family and be the happy-go-lucky Saiyan he is.


Dragon Ball Z is an anime series that ran from 1989 to 1996. It consists of 291 episodes (asides from the first two, which weren't originally aired on television) divided in two seasons. A sequel series with a new generation of heroes and villains, "Dragon Ball GT", began airing five years later in Japan.Dragon Ball Z was adapted into two anime films, and thirteen video games have been released based on the series, with more games announced to be released. Finally, there have been numerous other related products made, such as action figures, collectible cards and films portraying what happened between chapters 250 and 253 of Dragon Ball manga.
